Stop the Madness: no more "versus" battles, please

Although many of us have been singing the tune for years, now the plea is being leveled at journalism conferences, and I agree.
This Poynter Online's item, "J-Conferences: Please Nix the "Vs. Thinking" highlights this post by Steve Safran of Lost Remote Blog which tackles the issue of conference sessions seeming to always pit side against side: blogs v. newspapers, MSM v. citizen journalists, online v. print.
Jeff Jarvis must feel tired of reiterating this as well, because I feel as though I've read that he's said this many times, "All I can say is that I look forward to a conference where we don't have this argument and we talk about the possibilities of what we can do together."
Again, these sentiments make this effort with the Plain Dealer all the more worth working out.

Thanks for mentioning this, Jill. I hope you'll also start crying "fould" when you see 'vs. thinking" cropping up a j-conferences.
Jeff Jarvis is getting a gong. I will too. maybe you should go shopping for one, portable enough to carry to a conference.

I love the idea of the gong, Amy! I was actually thinking that something from Cafe Press or I don't know would be great! Some kind of promo or sidebar button, a mini-movement that advocates The End Days of the Versus Thinking or something. lol Or maybe I'm just getting silly.
I'll definitely try to find one before the conference I mentioned on Jeff Jarvis's post - at the Bliss Institute for Applied Politics in October. The panel is called News, Bloggers and New Media in 2008 Ohio.
Thanks for stopping by and if you have a chance to read this post about a collaboration we're negotiating with the Plain Dealer, I'd love to know what you think.
Jill: Thanks for joining the mission! I don't want to complain anymore - I want to be positive about this and get people talking about possibilities. So as we highlight "vs." thinking, let's also highlight people who aren't stuck in the "vs." trap - those who are doing changing from "vs" to "us."
