Reason #35 to VOTE NO on ISSUE 3

Because it will add to the size and cost of the Ohio state government. And no, I'm still not a neo-con.
Check out this list of state-run councils for gambling (click on "Problem gambling" on the left sidebar). A few are non-profits, but the others are state-run, created and increasing the size of state governments in order to deal with the additional problem gamblers created by the increase in the state's gaming industry.
What do you think it costs to run those agencies? To pay for those folks' state benefits? And how much is left over to treat the individuals? Do we know where the Ohio council will go? Into ODADAS? Here's a look at how California does it, with a budget of over $660 million. ODADAS's budget is $176 million.
Doesn't it just sound counterintuitive, in this day and age, to be creating more people in need of mental health treatment services and to be creating new government entities to treat those individuals, when we're also always talking about the cost of health care? Not to mention the lack of parity for mental health treatment, literally and figuratively.
Totally non-sensical.
$28 million for "treatment"? Sounds like $28 million for the Ohio state government to create some jobs for itself.
