Because everyone else is voting no.
(From the Columbus Dispatch, 9/24/06)
Proponents of the slots and gambling love to talk about how every state that borders Ohio already allows some kind of gambling like slots etc. and that Ohioans are taking all that money to the other states and coming back to Ohio with the problems, but not the money, that got them into trouble in the first place. How sad and awful - we should let them at least develop their addiction here and lose money here. Why should they have to bother traveling for their trouble?
I don't buy that argument because I seldom buy an argument centered on, "because everyone else is doing it."
But hey, I'm for literary conveniences and it sounds like a good reason to a lot of people. You know, as in, "But mom, everyone else is going" or "but honey, the whole office will be there" or "but dear, everyone has a $1200 Prada bag."
True - I don't buy this logic very often, but don't let that stop you from voting no with the other 48% of Ohioans.
